Day 2 (Reinforcing Ideas)
Through my second day I have been letting the RA play each song I listen to. I will not skip or pick any song from here on out.
With this, I have already experienced content being replayed by the RA. Songs that were replayed include:
- Espresso (Sabrina Carpenter)
- Not Like us (KDOT)
After listening to music through the day, I believe my theory, that the RA is more focused on pushing more popular content to new users, has been further reinforced as the content that was being recommended to me was mostly contemporary music that seemed popular on both the application and social media.
Furthermore, that application has not changed or replaced any of the playlists that were presented to me yesterday. This may changed later down the line as the RA may still not have collected enough data to recommend me different playlists.
I also noticed, that a lot of the music I was hearing was music I had already heard on social media.
Things that can be looked further into in future research:
- Does social media have an effect on the music that is pushed to users on Spotify?
