Intro Script

Algorithms, almost seems like every year they dictate more and more things we do. From the things we buy, watch, scroll past and listen to. It seems like our whole life will soon be dictated by some algorithm that recommends us the most optimal daily routine taking our daily habits and diet into consideration. I'm sure that's fare into the distant future though there's definitely no apps that are already doing that. (Look dead into camera and pull ‘are you serious rn face) https://clickup.com

With how much Ai is being integrated into our lives it honestly seems like we have no control over what we are being recommended any more. And this is seemingly locking people into certain types of shows they watch, videos they see while doom scrolling and music they hear on apps like Spotify.

Like I have a playlist on Spotify with over 2000 songs ok and I swear it feels like the same ten artists are being played more so than others.

The worst part about it though is that I don't even notice it until my Spotify wrapped comes out and I find out Kanye is once again the artists that I listened to the most. Which is confusing right because I knew that I wasn't purposefully playing that song.

In fact I was playing his music less after he completely destroyed his reputation but it seemed that the app was still recommending me his music over other artists.

So why was this happing?

I know I wasn't choosing his songs but the algorithm dictating my listening habits still believed I was a massive fan.

Well this was because of the Recommender algorithm (RA) that Spotify uses to recommend you music based of the historical data that it has collected through the time you have used the app.

And This was basically dictating the music I was hearing based of my listening habits through the 5 years of using the app. Basically trapping me in a filter bubble right

But I don't want this to happen. But it seems like there's no way out at this point. I'm just stuck with the same music tastes I've had for years.

But what if there was?

you see I’m gonna take it upon myself to listen to music on Spotify, daily. For 30 days. All On a fresh account ok so no historical data

I wont be searching or picking any songs just using the curated playlists that are chosen for me

And my main objectives in this research is to monitor if I end up in a filter bubble and if there is anyway out of one

Because it seems that now more than ever people are trapped in their own filter bubbles whether it be on social media or with music with seemingly no escape From the echo chamber they fell into
